Riding with snakes

By mike | May 6, 2007

In Michigan, where I live and do most of my riding, I come across lots of wildlife. Deer, raccoons, wild turkeys, skunks and… snakes. Most of the snakes we see are around this time of the year, when the warm spring weather brings them out of hibernation and we see them sunning along the trails. Most are gardner snake. I’ve seen blue racers and black snakes, too.We only have one venomous snake in Michigan - the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, a shy and reclusive snake that seldom gets any longer than 2 1/2- feet long. Still, they are out there. I’ve seen several over the years. For my day job as a columnist with the Detroit Free Press, I did a video on the Massasauga. Here it is. Meanwhile how about you and your riding, what have you seen?

Your video looks great. My video looks very bad in comparison.

It starts out clear but when we compress it it looks dark and soft. What do you do to get such great video?

Another Question… I saw you on TV talking about a hand held video… I can not find it on your site. What is the name of the product?

I’ll post a link tomorrow to my newspaper review but the camera I use for some of the bike riding is called the Flip (www.theflip.com)
This snale video was shot with a professional HD camera, edited woth Final Cut pro and compressed with Sorensen Squeeze.
